battleships: (so i stole this from dora.)
Iroh (艾洛 ) | United Forces General ([personal profile] battleships) wrote in [community profile] earthkingdom2013-07-11 03:03 am

I'm still these nervous feet and heart of stone—

who. General Swashbuckler ([personal profile] battleships) and the Silver Foxxx ([personal profile] vavavroom)
summary. Asami is a new recruit to the United Forces, and she is tasked with a mission of getting General Iroh out to discuss an Important Issue with the Northern Water Tribe. Along the way the airship crash lands into Crazy Town, a peculiar settlement deep in the woods of the Earth Kingdom, and they won't let the swashbuckling duo go that easily.

[Only three months have passed since the Equalist conflict was resolved in the heart of the United Republic of Nations. Not enough time to enjoy a reprieve, let alone mourn the losses of the Fire Nation's bravest, but going is part of the job and Iroh's head can finally withstand it. It requires an understanding of foreign relations. The Northern Water Tribe is concerned now that they have received word of what havoc members of their tribe have repeatedly caused over the course of decades, all few and far between but damage significant and getting worse. Iroh can't say he blames them for requesting the presence of the world's sharpest and most reasonable military minds. They're in for a feast, apparently, and they are promised to be met with enthusiasm to getting back on track.

That is part of the job, what he signed up for. In a back room of a United Forces airship, he studies a map for future purposes, thankful for the legroom and the quiet his sea ships lack. Certainly, it was hard to tear himself away from his beautiful new pilot after a couple hours of chatter relevant and otherwise to the situation, but his career doesn't allow a lot of room for mingling of that sort either. He'd left her with a firm smile, and he'd told her with confidence, "I look forward to working alongside you again, Miss Sato. I knew you'd be the right person for this job."

In the silence, his mind reels with the information sitting in his lap and the more pressing matter back home. Just before they had embarked on their mission, he received news of his grandmother and former Fire Lady's illness, one that will perhaps pass her on to the next life. The news spread across the United Republic of Nations, too, so it's no secret to anyone. With such a massive population holding their breath, with the honor of being her grandson, with his love for her, Iroh can't imagine missing it.

Truthfully, the reason he chose a new recruit like Asami over a seasoned veteran is because he knows of her reputation for speedy, borderline reckless travel. He has utmost faith that she knows what she's doing to begin with, more than most with her upbringing and exposure to Future Industries and Hiroshi's tutelage. It gives him peace of mind where he sits in quiet, honing in and out of this map that never seems to change.

What brings him out of his trances is the odd whirring that occurs and stops, reoccurs louder and stops, and asserts persistence with more and more vengeance. As it becomes cause for concern, Iroh leaves his map on the broad wooden table before him and ventures back into the cockpit.]

Private, there's an alarming sound coming from the engine room. I'll pilot while you go take a look.
