summary. Two best friends solve mysteries, fight crime, and fall in love! That is, if Asami's stupid Dad doesn't get in the way. Luckily, with the help of their friend Nagabot, they can do anything they want. But wait, what happens when they go to the mall and fall in love with the same boy!? DRAMA!
Technology in the actual 80s provided more than previous generations could have ever dreamed of... that is, unless you were Hiroshi Sato, who was responsible for some of the latest and grandest inventions of the decade. He'd invented the satomobile that could talk and take direction, and that was what Asami used to get to the Republic City Mall that day.
"Satomobile, take me to the mall!"
"You got it, Asami!" responded the speaker, who would undoubtedly be a fashionable woman if she had a human form. All Asami had to do was put her hands on the steering wheel, and away they went.
Asami couldn't wait to see her cool, best friend Korra. She always considered herself an ordinary girl before she met her. Sure, she'd known others who had the ability to wield the elements, but Korra could bend all four of them: earth, air, fire, and water. And here Asami had thought that being popular with the boys was something to be proud of. As if her bending wasn't enough, Korra also had a radical pet, Nagabot (Naga for short), made of technology even her father had never heard of before. Asami was pretty sure Naga was from space. If it weren't for their pal's hypersonic smelling, they would never be able to complete half the mysteries they aspired to solve.
After arriving at her destination, Asami gave her hair a final spray and fluffed it out with her hand. She applied a coat of red lipstick, threw on the graffiti coat she had laying in her backseat, and picked up the car's cell phone (which was the size of a brick) to her ear. She even almost forgot to pull out the antenna.
"Korra, I'm at the mall! I'll meet you at the food court."

"Korra, I'm at the mall! I'll meet you at the food court."

"Totally cool! I'll see you soon."
After hanging up, she paused to dig around the compartment. She wasn't as into make-up and stuff as all the other girls, but she had gotten into dabbling in it a while back. After a liberal application of hairspray and fixing up her bright blue eyeshadow, she continued on to the mall with Nagabot in tow. Being the Avatar had its privileges, such as being able to bring her mechanical buddy into the mall with her.
Social status rocked.
It took a few minutes to navigate her way over to the food court. Already dressed in neon-print legwarmers over a blue onesie and light green short-sleeved shirt, she really wasn't that hard to spot. Especially with Nagabot standing at her side. Now where was Asami...

"Hey, Korra! Hey, Naga! There are so many mallrats here today, but at least I managed to grab some awesome sales. What's up?"

"Hey girlfraaaaaaand! We just got here-- and you've been busy. You finish shopping already or need a quick break before round two? Because I need some new jellies."

Asami didn't miss a beat between talking and turning, leading the way to the shoe store she had in mind. It was decked out with multicolored blinking lights and radical music, something much akin to A-ha's Take on Me. Her teased hair bounced with every step, because she was just that excited.
But as they were approaching the shoe store, something bad had totally happened. Asami could tell because the owner had his arms crossed, shaking his head at the entrance.
"Another thievery," he sighed to himself, and Asami sent Korra a look with a very dramatic shrug that said, he needs to invest in better security.
this tag almost didn't come because I was too busy laughing my ass off rereading the thread
"Hey Mister, what happened here?" she asked.
"I was in the back for a few minutes getting some new shoes ready for the floor when I heard a crash!" he said, looking down at his feet. "When I ran out to see what happened, my newest hi-tech sneakers that lights up were all missing! I thought they'd be safe in the display case, but as you can see, it doesn't seem to have been enough..."
He pointed over to a locked display case where the glass had been smashed in. Korra beckoned to Asami and Naga as she headed in for a closer look. A couple of the boxes had been left behind, but devoid of their contents. The picture on the box boasted an awesome and funky shoe in various shades of neon colors. Korra bit her lower lip as she noticed the sale sign that had been in with them. A hefty price tag of 150 yuans. Ouch. But why steal all of them? HMMM...
She looked over at Asami, a bright gleam in her eye that clearly said, I think we have a new case on our hands.

"Don't worry, sir. We're right on it. We'll get those sneakers back before dinnertime."
Normally she would give the team a longer window of time to work with, but then she explained as a whispered aside to Korra, "I don't have a choice. My Dad said he would ground me if I come home past curfew again. Lame!"
And unfortunately, it didn't look like her general easier to ask forgiveness rule of thumb was going to work this time.
